The Wood Snake Lunar New Year, 2025 brings forth a potent spiritual force through one of the most revered and reviled animals on earth, the snake. Though the snake is well known for casting mysteries driven by fear and for its slippery nature, it's more well known in the realms of the spiritual as a powerful symbol of resurrection, rebirth, wisdom, fortitude and harmony with cycles.
When these sacred attributes combine with the fundamental growth and stability within the element of wood, one’s creative endeavors favor adaptability, renewal, planning and grounded decision making.
Following on the ‘ wings’ of a fabulously whirlwind wood Dragon year in 2024, this wood snake year metaphorically grounds the flying serpent dragon, landing creative endeavors and infusing them with life force, furthering one's personal growth in new, exciting ways.
The dragon’s energy with its belly firmly on the ground now in the season of The Snake, turns its gift of enthusiasm into The Snake's gifts of focus, patience and the ability to move unimpeded through the underbrush, in through and around the tight squeezes that deter other animals.
Snakes shed their skin with regularity, not only representing our continual invitation to out grow with ease our old selves, but to harness nature's intrinsic harmonious cycles, strengthening our ability to “wait for it” and be patient with the natural cycle within whatever we are working to manifest. Though snakes may bolt through the water and grass, they never rush!
Snake energy also reflects our connection to the moon, as she too sheds her shadow in a reliable monthly cycle.
The Snake can also assist you with patiently examining your relationship to mystery and the mysterious. Snake shows us how to be fundamentally connected to the earth, how to squeeze into the shadow places within our psyches and use the wealth of self awareness that we find within to outgrow our old skins and become our big selves, bit by bit, patiently and with vigilant, grounded wisdom.
In ancient time snakes were used symbolically to represent the path and upward trajectory that kundalini or life force energy traces as it moves up the spiritual initiate’s central channel along the spine, through the chakras and ultimately birthing out the upper chakras bringing enlightened consciousness forth with it.
In the garden of Eden the snake revealed to Adam and Eve the Apple of Duality, offering them an opportunity to differentiate from their transcendent, god-unified state and become creator mortals themselves (nice twist -thank you Joseph Campbell for helping to heal religious shame ;).
So in many ways we are kin with the snake. We can grow and change, we’re fundamentally linked with natural cycles and though we need to blink in order to see, unlike the snake, our ability to develop keen awareness and perceive our reality with clarity are like that of this beautiful serpent.
The sacred serpentine-like tract of dormant consciousness coiled at the base of and up our spine is designed, as it unfurls, to lead us on a journey through the shadow and light of our inner world, bringing us into the warm sunshine of our awakening, within spirit, connected to earth and the heavens, at peace with the knowing and non knowing of the mysteries of being a piece of Life! Enlightenment is always furthered in the underbrush with Wood Snake!
